چکیده

The chromium of most chromium compounds exists in the form of triand hexa-valences. Application of a chemical method of determination of the former is difficult because the former is far more inactive than the latter. For example, neither an extraction method by organic solvents or a colorimetric method with diphenylcarbazide is suitable to determine Cr+3, because Cr+3 does not react with diphenylcarbazide and other chelating agents such as APDC and DDTC etc. Therefore, a method of oxidizing Cr+3 to Cr+6 is necessary for the determination of Cr+3.1) The author proposed the following method by which Cr+3 was oxidized to Cr+6 in a water-soluble state without difficulty. The sample solution containing Cr+3 was made acidic by adding H2SO1, and then a small quantity of a strong oxidizing agent was added to it. Powdery MnO2 or PbO2 was used for the oxidizing agent in the present experiment. Then the solution was boiled for a while. The oxidizing reaction proceeded easily by the above procedure, and Cr+3 changed to Cr+6 rapidly as follows:

Chromium and Dairy Nutrition: What Do We Know?

Chromium (Cr) is a trace element that is most commonly encountered in the +3 and +6 oxidation states. Hexavalent Cr is a strong oxidizing agent and is used in numerous industrial processes, most notably in the manufacture of stainless steels. Trivalent Cr is the most stable oxidation state and is the form most likely to persist and have metabolic activity in biological systems. It is speculated...

Biochemical and Hematological Profiles of Common Carp (Cyprinus Carpio) under Sublethal Effects of Trivalent Chromium

Background: In natural waters and/or aquaculture facilities, fish are often exposed to chromium waste and demonstrate cumulative deleterious effects. To our knowledge, there are no studies concerning the effects of trivalent Cr on C. carpio hematology. This study presents hematological and some biochemical parameters of common carp, Cyprinus carpio, affected by sublethal concentration of triva...

N-(2H-[1,2,4]thiadiazolo[2,3-a]pyridine-2-ylidene)benzamide was used as a selective sensing material in the PVC membrane to construction of a new chromium ion selective electrode. This liquid membrane electrode worked well with a Nernstian response of 19.7 ±0.4 mV decade-1 of Cr(III) in a wide dynamic concentration range of 8.0× 10-6-1.0×10-1 M. The electrode had relatively short response time ...

A new simple arid rapid catalytic kinetic method for determination of trace amounts of chromium (110 isdescribed. The method is based on the catalytic effect of chromium (III) on the reduction of Methylene blue byascorbic acid in acidic media. The reaction monitored smectrophotomenically by measuring the decrease ofabsorbance at 664 nm at 25 C. The fixed-time method was used for the first 300 s...

Chromium Speciation in Water by HPLC/ICP-MS

Chromium exists primarily in two forms: trivalent and hexavalent. Trivalent chromium is present in the cationic form as Cr+3 and is an essential nutrient, but hexavalent chromium is toxic and exists as an anion, either as chromate (CrO4 -2) or dichromate (Cr2O7 -2). Therefore, the analysis of total chromium does not always provide a true indication of the effects of chromium present in a sample...
